In 1989 our sister company, Rod Briggs Design Group, made the decision to invest in Computer Aided Design and chose AutoCAD - as used by the majority of CAD users in the Construction Industry.
Whilst the changeover to CAD has never been regretted, there are some aspects of the computerisation of the industry that still cause concern. Much of the information supplied by manufacturers to Architects is, it has to be said, of little value. It is either too detailed and complex to wade through or too ambiguous and lacks the information that Specifiers need. So in an attempt to resolve this problem we decided to do something about it and CAD-O Designer Databases Ltd was formed to provide a solution to the problem. As Specifiers ourselves, we know what information is needed and, having assembled a team of computer programmers and systems designers to supply the technical know-how, we have set about the task of creating a method of disseminating the relevant information to Specifiers - information that they could use easily and effectively. Since CAD-O Designer Databases Ltd was formed, progress has been quite remarkable: British Gypsum launched a CAD-O designer database package for the fire protection of structural steelwork, to help the Specifier automatically insert details and notes into the working drawing. Camas Building Materials used a CAD-O designer database package to create a revolutionary method of specifying Hard Landscaping and Drainage schemes. Premdor have commisioned CAD-O designer databases to upgrade Version 1 of their interactive CD ROM database and develop an associated website. CAD-O designer databases are specialists in providing interactive computer based product selection and detailing systems to the construction and allied industries, in both CD and WEBSITE formats. |
